Quick & Tasty @ BMC

Golden Lentil Soup

Come celebrate BMCs culinary diversity through a cooking class at the Teaching Kitchen.

We’re celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month by exploring the heart of Indian home cooking with Suman Shah, chef-educator and local business owner.

Learn to cook with spices, lentils, and fresh seasonal vegetables as she demonstrates techniques passed down through generations. Blooming whole and ground spices to unlock flavor, using lentils as a protein-rich foundation, and building a rich, satisfying soup by layering flavors step by step. You’ll also see how small adjustments in technique and seasoning can transform the same base ingredients into entirely new dishes, highlighting the versatility and resourcefulness of immigrant cooking traditions.

The class includes an introduction to the Instant Pot to make lentils, grains, and batch meals faster and more approachable for everyday cooking. By the end, you’ll gain practical techniques to cook more intuitively, use spices with confidence, and create simple, health-forward meals from pantry staples and what you already have on hand.

Virtual attendees will receive a zoom link directly from BMC’s teaching team.
