Silence at the Audubon

Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary, Audubon Society of Massachusetts.

The last few weeks have been hellacious as we read the news. To counteract that I tend to seek out solace in nature. A couple of weekends ago, I ended up at the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary, North of Boston. Those couple of hours just being, reassured me of our humanity, even though it may not seem possible on some days.

It was like falling into a deep pool of green. Where light and shadows played hide-and-seek and the trails opened up to us…

Hidden grottos as we rounded corners whispered their secrets…

And sculptural shadows stood barring all…

The pond’s nature is to be still
So that the lotus can bloom
Acknowledging each other
In silence
Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary, Audubon Society
Anywhere we looked it was green, and quiet, except for the chirping and staccato calls…

Some hung skeptical and upside down, some fed freely from gentle palms…
